Frequently asked questions

What information does this tool show?
Dimensions in pixels, file size, format, color mode, DPI/resolution, and creation or modification date if present in the metadata.
Does it show GPS location data?
If the image has GPS coordinates in its EXIF data, they will be shown. Phone cameras embed GPS by default unless location services are disabled or stripped on upload. Use the EXIF Data Remover tool to remove location data before sharing photos publicly.
Why does my image show 72 DPI when it was taken at 300 DPI?
DPI values stored in image files are just metadata tags, not a fixed property of the pixels. A 3000x2000 pixel image has the same pixels regardless of whether the DPI tag says 72 or 300. DPI only matters when printing, not for screen display.
Can this tool edit or remove metadata?
This tool is read-only. To remove metadata including GPS data and camera information, use the EXIF Data Remover tool in the Unique Tools section.
Is my image uploaded to check the metadata?
No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Your image is never sent to any server.
What is color mode and why does it matter?
Color mode indicates how colors are stored: RGB (red, green, blue) for screen, CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) for print. Most web images are RGB. If you need an image for professional print work, the file may need to be converted to CMYK in a print-specific application.
