Frequently asked questions

What color formats can be converted?
HEX to RGB, RGB to HEX, HEX to HSL, RGB to HSL, and all reverse conversions are supported. CMYK conversion is also available.
Are the conversions mathematically exact?
Conversions between HEX and RGB are exact. Conversions involving HSL and HSB involve rounding at the decimal level, which may produce slight discrepancies with other tools.
What is the difference between HSL and HSB?
Both use hue and saturation but differ in the third component. HSL uses lightness (0 is black, 100 is white, 50 is full color). HSB uses brightness/value (0 is black, 100 is full brightness). They produce different results for the same color.
Can I convert multiple colors at once?
The tool converts one color at a time.
Does it work offline?
Yes.
Which format should I use in CSS?
All major formats work in CSS. HEX is most compact and widely used. HSL is most useful for creating color variations because you can adjust lightness and saturation independently.
